study released by the University of Sydney revealed that 19% of the global food system’s greenhouse-gas emissions result from food transport. “Food transport emissions add up to nearly half of direct emissions from road vehicles,” notes the study’s lead author. The study showed that fruit and vegetables together constitute over a third of food transport emissions, and the emissions of transportation exceed those of production.
