On October 4, the NH Food Alliance held its monthly Network Café part of their 2024-2025 Network Café Series. Seth Wilner, Field Specialist in Agricultural Business Management at UNH Extension, and Josh Marshall, Assistant Commissioner of the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food joined us to explore and discuss opportunities available to New Hampshire’s farm and food businesses to increase profitability and move towards more sustainable and collaborative business models under the Resilient Food System Infrastructure (RFSI) Program.
Josh shared about the RFSI program's Equipment-Only Grant opportunity, which will be opening on December 1, with the RFP available in the beginning of November. The grant will fund collaborative projects that benefit more than one New Hampshire farm or food business in one of the following areas:
- Cold storage
- Transportation and distribution
- Cooperative commercial kitchens and other shared valued added facilities
- Light processing, culinary grain processing, or dairy processing
- Packaging and labeling equipment
- Food waste composting
The second opportunity, shared by Seth, is a professional development project to be led by UNH Extension, the NH Food Alliance, and the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food. The project will create case studies of New Hampshire and New England farms who are utilizing collaborative and innovative business models to reach success and profitability. The case studies will be the basis for professional development guides and programs. As the project is at it's preliminary stages, we are calling for subjects for the case studies.
