Children and food insecurity are not words you want to hear in the same sentence. But unfortunately, over 9 million children in the US are food insecure, which the USDA defines as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life.
Every five years, Congress has the chance to review child nutrition programs through the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act. While it has not been updated since 2010, the rising cost of living, the pandemic, and updated dietary recommendations mean changes are sorely needed.
